Frequently Asked Questions

Our Products

Have you recently changed the formulation of some of your products?
We have recently made some minor changes to the formulation of some products to ensure we could independently certify them to the COSMOS Organic standard. We're proud to be the biggest COSMOS Organic certified beauty brand in the UK – and growing! COSMOS Organic is the leading global organic standard for the beauty industry, providing independent validation and certification for the ingredients we use and the products we create. What's more, because growing organic ingredients is better for the environment, you know that our products are not only better for your skin, but they’re also better for our planet too.
Have you recently changed the design & packaging of your products?
We have recently made some fantastic changes to the design and types of packaging we use across the Dr. Organic range, focusing on the use of more sustainable recycled packaging options. Our new infographics on pack are designed to communicate important information such as skin or hair type suitability, COSMOS certification, Vegan/Veggie suitability and packaging recyclability for easier navigation and product selection. Other positive changes include updating our shampoos and body wash packaging, switching to 100% recycled ocean bound plastic bottles which help protect our oceans from damaging plastic waste.
Why do your products now contain Aloe Vera Powder and no longer Aloe Vera Juice?
Dr Organic use the highest quality organic aloe vera juice within our product range, to ensure we are as environmentally sustainable as possible we use concentrated freeze dried organic aloe vera to ensure we capture and maintain the maximum nutritional properties of the aloe vera plant and to reduce our impact on the planet. The organic freeze-dried granules are then reconstituted with pure filtered water at point of manufacture ensuring we have the best quality and cleanest organic aloe vera possible whilst significantly reducing our carbon emissions compared to shipping millions of gallons of aloe vera juice. The raw material we use within our COSMOS range is still exactly the same high quality organic aloe vera form the same source that we have used previously and has passed the rigorous checks of Soil Association in terms of organic status and environmental impact, only now displayed in a slightly different way as requested by Soil Association.
Do your Body Washes & Shampoo’s now contain ALS?
We can confirm that our COSMOS certified formulations now contain Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS), a mild naturally derived surfactant from vegetable oil and not from synthetic chemicals. ALS is approved by all leading Organic certification bodies for use in COSMOS certified cosmetics. Although ALS is a sulphate-based surfactant it is very different in structure to the similar sounding surfactant SLS which is known to be irritating to the skin. SLS is a very small molecule which means it can penetrate the top layers of the skin and therefore lead to more instances of skin irritation. ALS is a very large molecule that cannot penetrate the top layers of the skin thus meaning it is classified as low irritancy. Have you changed the fragrance in some of your products?
We can confirm that our COSMOS certified formulations now contain slightly modified natural fragrances to ensure we could certify our products to the COSMOS Organic standard. The COSMOS organic standard ensures that only 100% natural extracts and oils that meet strict criteria including processing and extraction methods can be used in certified organic products. The great news, this means that our COSMOS fragrances are now guaranteed to be even more natural and even more pure than before, but even though we have tried to match as closely to the original fragrances this does mean you may notice some slight differences in smell to our non cosmos fragrances including to top and base notes and strength.
